Position: Disease Intervention Specialist                                                                                                  

Reports to: Grant Supervisor

Position to be filled: February 13, 2023           

Starting Salary: $48,951 annually        

Hours:  Mon. – Fri., 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.        

 

Vaccine Policy: Effective November 1, 2021 all new hires will need to meet COVID and Influenza vaccine requirements or request an exemption as outlined in the CCBH Vaccination Policy     

                                               

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of two years of experience with public health, social work, health education, and/or community organizing OR no experience necessary with a college degree (Associate's/Bachelors/Master's) from an accredited college/university.
  • Must have phlebotomy training or be willing to complete phlebotomy training during employment and receive certification as required by the Ohio Department of Health and/or the Center for Disease Control.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurance at time of appointment.
  • Basic knowledge of local, state, and federal guidelines related to HIV & syphilis transmission, & prevention.
  • Ability to efficiently multi-task on a daily basis.
  • Comfort with handling needles and the sight of bodily fluids.
  • Proficiency with use of PC hardware & basic software (i.e., Microsoft office), email, and office equipment (i.e., copier, fax, scanner, telephone, etc.). Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
  • Good customer service, verbal and written communication skills, and effective presentation skills. Good interpersonal relationship skills including cultural sensitivity & competence.
  • Proficiency with use of databases and for data querying and reporting.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Investigates positive laboratory tests of infectious diseases (HIV, syphilis, etc.) within the region as guided by the Ohio Infectious Disease Control Manual.
  • Conducts community-based outreach within the region to notify and interview individuals on a case load who are at risk or diagnosed with an infectious disease (HIV, syphilis, etc.). Makes primary and partner referrals for testing and treatment.
  • Follows up with individuals diagnosed with syphilis to ensure treatment is completed and follow-up testing is done.
  • Links individuals diagnosed with HIV to medical treatment and community-based supportive services.
  • Contacts healthcare providers as needed to gather additional information.
  • Enters infection case information into the Ohio Disease Reporting System (ODRS).
  • Provides referral, education, and other risk reduction information about HIV/syphilis prevention and care services.
  • Draws blood and other bodily fluids to test for HIV and syphilis.
  • Develops and extracts reports from databases (i.e., ODRS, etc.) for delivery to internal and external customers. Gathers and organizes documents to satisfy public records requests or other reporting obligations.
  • Participates in public health emergency activities as needed. Serves as a first responder of the outbreak investigation team.
  • Collaborates with internal and external partners on special projects as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
