Position: 
Student Environmental Worker -  Water Quality Program

Rate: $15.00/hour, 37.5 hours/week
Reports to:  Program Supervisor
Positions to be filled:  5/19/25 or 6/2/25 (12-week assignment)
Hours:  Mon.– Fri., 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.                                               

 

Vaccine Policy: All new hires will need to meet COVID and Influenza vaccine requirements or request an exemption and submit a TB Baseline as outlined in the CCBH Vaccination Policy. Direct service employees will need to meet Hepatitis-B vaccine requirements or request an exemption as outlined in the CCBH Vaccination Policy.

 

Minimum Requirements

 • Active major in biological sciences or other related discipline.

 • Active, full-time enrollment at an accredited college/university with at least a 2.5 G.P.A.

 • Valid State of Ohio driver's license and insurance at the time of appointment. Automobile access required.

 • Basic computer skills and knowledge of fundamental software (i.e., Microsoft Office), email, and use of other basic office equipment.

• Good customer service, verbal and written communication skills. Good interpersonal relationship skills including cultural sensitivity & competence.

• Regular attendance and punctuality.

• Interest in public health.

 

Responsibilities:

Will include but NOT limited to:

  1. Collect and prepare storm water quality samples from a variety of environments throughout the watersheds of the health district.
  2. Collect and prepare water quality samples from bathing beaches.
  3. Utilize proper techniques to collect water quality samples and maintain their viability during delivery to laboratory or other analysis site.
  4. Maintain accurate records of water quality sampling and daily work activities.
  5. Responsible for bathing beach monitoring and sampling at various locations in the county.
  6. Communicate effectively with the community regarding water quality sample collection, analysis and interpretation of results.
  7. Represents the Board of Health in a professional manner when dealing with community officials and the general public.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

NOTE: 

Student workers are employed by CCBH for a 12-week session (5/19/24 – 8/08/25 or 6/2/25 – 8/22/25).  Student workers planning vacations during this period should consult with CCBH when applying.

 

Performance of duties requires exertion of frequent physical effort including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, repetitive motions and feeling.

 

Frequently involves the ability to handle objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 50 pounds).
